BJ’s, Costco or SAM’s… which do you prefer? (socks, pricing, store)

I also prefer Costco, but shop mostly at Sam's. 45 minutes away vs 10 minutes makes a huge difference for weekly perishables. No BJs anywhere near me. |

We spend $200+ a month at Costco. We belonged to Sam's also, but the one we went to closed up in 2018, along with two others in the Seattle area. BJ's is the name of a restaurant nearby, I've never heard of a "club:" with that name so it must not be in this area. |

I warehouse shop mainly at Costco as it's closer and has more of the products to my liking. I don't do much perishable food shopping at the club simply because it's way too much for just a single person. Can't beat their wine and jewelry selection. Their online items can have some really good surprises. I do have BJ's card and will visit from time to time especially when having a party as they do have a full service deli and bakery for special and specific needs. I did discover they may have some of the same manufacture but all three clubs seem to have specific varieties of a manufacture's product. So, BJ's have the frozen vegetable variety pack I like which the others have different sections. And, I also found out through BJ's that there are several tasty (and oh so bad for us but who cares) versions of Jamaican/Caribbean meat pies....... Not to start a fight but to me Sam's still was just a Walmart with the same low-class floppy wearing slobs just buying their beer and burgers in bulk. (no offense to the floppies). |

We don't have a BJs warehouse store near us. We do have a BJs Brew/restaurant about 30 mins away. |

Nearest Costco is a good 45 minute drive but we have friends who also shop there so carpooling helps. |

Each has good and bad... Costco is a good distance from us to, so it's very rare that we go there. We used to go when we lived closer to one. Sam's Club is just always there. For us, Sam's usually works out best for tech/electronic items and it's just closer and more convenient than BJ's. BJ's has some good stuff too. |

Costco is usually the top pick by Consumer Reports and other reputable ratings websites. We've been in Costco since our kid was a baby and it made sense to buy diapers & wet wipes in bulk. For a while, though, we lived pretty near to a BJ's, so we joined using one of their "$25 for a year, plus a $25 coupon" deals. Why not? It's free! Anyway, the BJ's in my experience was approximately as good as Costco, and had a lot of Kirkland-equivalent products like batteries for example, under their Berkeley Jensen house brand. I really couldn't tell the difference, honestly; BJ's had a few things Costco didn't, like gigantic size Ben & Jerry's ice cream (hm... B&J...) and Costco carried a few things BJ's didn't have. Best thing is to just join both, if you can afford it, and BJ's often has enticing membership offers. So does Sam's Club but I've never lived near enough to one to shop regularly and get a feel for it. |

I much prefer Costco. Maybe 4-5 times a year would ride along with a family member who has a membership (for something to do, or when I'd need something like copy paper or printer ink and the person would happen to be going so I'd ride along and get what I needed there instead of Walmart. And of course I might make some small impulse buy like a skillet or socks or whatever.) Finally, caved and got my own. I just didn't want to keep relying on the availability of someone else to be able to go. It won't be the first time I've spent 60 bucks on something that ended up not really being worth it. |

I let my Costco membership expire, and I had it for 30 years. I got a Sam's membership on a Super Bowl Special a few years ago, and much prefer it over Costco. Sam's Club is much more technologically advanced than Costco, plus there's no waiting in line to checkout with Scan n Go. You can look on the Sam's website for an item, and it'll tell you if it's in stock, plus the price. The aisles are marked, so you don't have to go up and down every aisle looking for something. It's much more convenient than going to Costco. |
