I cant help to think there is a hidden agenda.

I like Harris Teeter for the variety and I miss living near the HT in Huntersville it had a salad bar and Harris Teeter has better selection of bread like Sourdough.

When I did shop there I would always shop what is on Vic special
I like in summer you can buy 1 get 3 free cases of coke cans.

Sunny, I doubt there's any secret agenda.

Walmart has the number 1 spot, however they only have 30% of share, so in their minds there is 70% of people not shopping at Walmart for their food.

Also, be careful about the "BUY 1 get X FREE" stuff. If you do a cost comparison, alot of times even the BOGO's are not better than your everyday prices at Walmart or Aldi.....

They have you hook line and sinker if you don't do your homework.....Its slick Marketing by HT and their ilk.....

I know we've hashed this out before, but it's been proven by many that eating real food is much less expensive than processed. You just have to do a little research and invest the time in cooking for your family. My grocery budget is less than half of what it used to be since I've gone local/whole.

Check out 100 Days of Real Food and see how she fed her family of four on organic, local food for 100 days on less than a food stamp recipient. Oh, and she lives in Charlotte!

Of course there is an agenda, wm is, has been and currently is leading this nation in a race to the bottom. The people of this nation simply need to stop darkening the doors of this dump. Reply With Quote Quick reply to this message

I do eat very healthy but just because I don't eat "organic" does not mean its processed or "comes out of a can" or I'm some sort of villain as you make your posts out to be...

No need to grossly exaggerate to try to make a point.

There was nothing villainous implied in my post. The guilt lies on you, if you took it that way. I don't eat organic either. I eat local. I mentioned that the blogger eats organic because it's much more expensive than conventional, and you mentioned you were on a tight budget. She did local, whole, AND organic for less than a food stamp recipient. It can be done, and quite easily. Reply With Quote Quick reply to this message

For the record I don't always buy bottled water but on the occasions I do its for elementary kids playing sport I can expect them to share with flu season etc and they don't always remember to bring their own but HT is not pulling the wool over my eyes with its B1G1F. Often Trader Joes is cheaper than Walmart and much better quality. They also treat their employees much more fairly than does Walmart. Even some of their Organic produce is cheaper than Walmart's non-organic. TJ's also practices a fair amount of ethical purchasing.

I've seen were a whole displays of strawberry cartons were moldy, and more recently I was going to by those cutie oranges only to find out that every bag I picked up (granted I stopped after 3 bags) was filled with squishy rotten oranges. Considering the produce depart is usually were people start their grocery shopping at, you would think they would want to have top quality produce available to buy. After seeing how nasty the produce is, I'm not in the mood to by any of their other food.

Well I don't see it. I grew up on a produce farm, and I'm extremely picky on my produce. I drive to SC once a week in the summer to get my peaches. but if I'm buying bananas or oranges or stuff you can only get in the winter, then I buy it at wal mart. same stuff, and they sell more so its fresher. btw when I buy my strawberries at teeter(cause wal-marts berries do suck, they hardly ever have them) I probably go through at least 20 containers to get 2. You can't get more pickier than me with produce. Reply With Quote Quick reply to this message

Do these ads actually mention Harris Teeter by name? I've seen some new Walmart commercials recently but the only thing they say is "so and so drives all around town looking for the lowest prices, but she can find them at Walmart."

For years my mother told me that HT was too expensive, and my reaction was generally "Pshaw!!" But then I found myself noticing just how expensive it was. I went through a phase when I had to mix medication into my dog's food, and used baby food to entice him to eat. The little jars of baby food were 79 cents at Food Lion and 99 cents at Harris Teeter for the same brand. I noticed other examples as well. (And I think their produce sucks! Lots of variety, to be sure, but it has no longevity whatsoever.)

Nowadays I only go into a Harris Teeter if I absolutely have to. I consider it more a "convenience store" and pay the "convenience store surcharge" or I consider it a "specialty store" and pay the "specialty store surcharge." They have to pay for those fancy aesthetics somehow. I do my regular shopping at Aldi -- which I love, love, love! -- and do my overflow shopping at a local Bi-Lo (which is trashy! whoa! but they're conveniently located).

Can't stand WalMart and don't willingly shop there for any reason. I step foot into a WalMart maybe 5 times per year, and usually it's when my parents are in town. THEY like to shop at WalMart.
