Here’s what I’m hoping to find:Cost of Living: Not a major concern.
Top-Notch Public Schools: I plan to start a family soon, so excellent schools are essential.
Town Size: I’m comfortable with a town around the size of Annapolis but am open to slightly larger or smaller towns. Charleston and DC feel a bit too big for me.
Safety: A very safe area is a must.
Community Vibe: I’m looking for a close-knit community with a friendly atmosphere where people say hi on the street. I want to be involved and feel connected.
Social Scene: Even though I’m in my mid-twenties, I enjoy a lively downtown with great bars, decent food, and local spots like coffee shops.
Water Access: I need to be near water, with a culture that appreciates boating, yachting, and sailing.
Historic Charm: I love historic homes and neighborhoods, with minimal new-build construction. Think charming, historic areas like the row homes in Annapolis, Georgetown, or downtown Charleston. My Hobbies: Needlepointing, reading, running, sports games, farmers markets, gardening, tennis, pickleball, boating, and hosting friends. Got any recommendations for towns that fit this description? I agree, if you like Annapolis and price isn't an option, pick Annapolis. The schools may require some shopping around to find the right one.Annapolis has a different vibe, it's like a small part of MD where the suburban sprawl stops, and this cool, small city, nearly entirely historically intact appears. Go 5 miles outside of this area and you are back in the 'burbs, but Annapolis, and Eastport across the water retain a small city/ big town vibe. |

| Southern Pines, NC. It’s about an hour from Raleigh, and close to Fayetteville.
Charming downtown, lots of young families (many military), shops and restaurants, First Friday concerts in the summer, and a farmers market at the park every weekend. A historic theater runs a new movie every week.
There is an Amtrak station there.You want to ideally be south of Highway 1, so you can walk downtown (the “states” streets, like Pennsylvania, New Jersey, etc). The home prices have skyrocketed, unfortunately, but maybe it’s in your budget.
